Our Story

The pursuit of a cleaner, bolder aperitivo.

It all began with a trip to Italy in 2019 and a closer look at traditional limoncello. The difference was immediately noticeable. Natural ingredients, no additives, and a character most commercial brands had lost.

But even those versions missed the mark. Rich citrus and natural intensity were there, but it was sweet to the point of sticky. This led to the question: could we make something more refreshing, less sweet, and closer to what we actually wanted to drink?

On the way back to Berlin, the urge to answer that question turned into a stop at a local market to buy lemons and a first experiment. It followed the same principles as traditional limoncello, real citrus peel, but with less sweetness and a cleaner finish. The result wasn't perfect, but it was enough to show that it was worth pursuing.

Improvement came gradually with each batch, shaped by curiosity rather than any fixed plan. Strength and sweetness emerged as the critical variables, refined over time. Several workshops in Italy deepened the understanding of traditional methods, while lab analysis provided data to support what the senses already suspected. Together, they validated some theories and quietly dismantled others. A close circle of friends and new acquaintances shaped each iteration until the recipe felt just right.

The decision to establish CITRIVO in 2025 began with a chance remark by a friend's father, who planted a seed that was hard to ignore. He couldn't understand why something this good wasn't already being sold. What followed was a shift from a passion project to something worth sharing. There is something deeply satisfying about crafting a tangible product from raw ingredients, seeing it take shape in a bottle, and watching people taste the difference. That hasn't changed.

It started with our Limoncello, built on that original approach. But the intent was never limited to a single fruit. Each new citrus brings its own character. The discipline remains the same.

CITRIVO is built on the idea that citrus liqueurs do not need to be defined by sweetness. We think there is more to explore, and we're glad you're here for it.
